SC Magazine US – Sep 19, 2007
Intoday’s web security world threats are just as likely to be found onreputable trusted sites. In fact the past year there have been countless incidencesof legitimate sites being found to host malware. MySpace the Miami Dolphinswebsite Wikipedia and the Samsung website have all been contaminated withmalware. The decentralization of website content has made it easy forcybercriminals to inject malware onto unsuspecting sites. Malware is beinginserted on web pages via insecure ad servers compromised hosting networksuser-contributed content and even through third-party widgets commonly foundon many legitimate sites. In May the Tom’s Hardwarewebsite a popular technical product review site visited by thousands oftech savvy users unknowingly hosted a malware infected ad which used theanimated cursor (ANI) vulnerability to spread a trojan. f even more concern is that cybercriminals are using verysophisticated tactics to seed malware on all types of sites.

Canadian coppers admit making up piracy figures
Inquirer – Sep 19, 2007
The letter came back from red-faced coppers confessing that they made up the figure based what they had read on theInternet. The RCMP did not conduct any independent research on the scope or impact of counterfeiting in Canada but rathermerely searched a couple news stories. The sources for the outrageous claim came from an unsubstantiated telly news piece which in turn got the figurefrom the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition which happens to be the movie recording and software industry indrag and which simply made it upIt seems that the RCMP just saw the figure which was plucked out of the bottom of the IACC and printed it as itsown. Soon they’ll try solving their cases by looking to see who did it on Wikipedia.
