The Denver Democrat said Monday that while his idea has angered many it has also tapped a fresh spring of ideas for how to tackle a real crisis. Now the unflappable optimist wants to harness people’s creative solutions by launching the bill drafting process online. “I want to have the first Wikipedia bill where the citizens write the bill” he said. “Since change is hard this is a way to engage people in a conversation about what’s realistic. ”Romer said he has directed his staff to call Wikipedia and Google to explore how the state might put his idea in motion. Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia edited collaboratively by the public. Local talk radio and television stations have given it significant airtime.

Cued by a phrase I must have read or heard I wanted to know what somebody somewhere claimed was the “ultimate buy signal. ” Between a quick Web search and landing on the appropriate Wikipedia page I got a very interesting answer. I discovered the “. ” I won’t go into the whole theory of this particular buy signal but Wikipedia explains the payoff in these terms: “A buy signal occurs when: Bullish divergence between price and the oscillator is observed meaning prices make new lows but the oscillator doesn’t.

Eric Raymond a computer programmer whose 1997 essay “The Cathedral and the Bazaar” is one of the best early explanations of the open-source approach said the success of Firefox in the aftermath of Netscape’s disappearance proved that the advantages of this community approach outweighed the downsides. “It can’t be traced back to who is responsible” said Raymond noting the frequent problems that arise with the open-source encyclopedia Wikipedia. But the advantage he said is that any programmer in the world can improve open-source code – attracting a world of eyeballs helping to improve Firefox. “Victory goes to the organization that can put together the largest consortium of brains” he said.
