American Idol: Where Are They Now; Finding Past Contestants

While this is a user edited site it has reference links to information so it is usually fairly accurate. What I do is search for American Idol then pick the season that the contestant I want was a part of go to that season page and see if there is a Wikipedia link to that contestant. Not all contestants will be listed on Wikipedia but quite a few are. The Wikipedia pages are as I said before user edited so they won’t always be accurate or up to date so I usually look at the reference links to see if the contestant has a web site of some sort. Why don’t I just search for the contestant and skip the Wikipedia? Because some of the contestants have fan sites that rate higher in the results and can confuse you.

Is Kindle 2 ready to be the only book you’ll ever read?
Chicago Sun-Times
It works anywhere in the country and the service is free for life!(The life of Sprint Amazon or your ownwhichever ends first. )And that’s honestly all I did with my Kindle for the first month or two. Then I had to pack for a weeklong trip and faced the eternal crisis of the avid reader: was I really going to haul this big slab of literal dead wood (specifically “The Secret Life f Houdini” by William Kalush and Larry Sloman) just so I could read a three or four more chapters on the plane? So I shrugged and purchased the Kindle edition. I fully intended to return to the hardcover when I got back but I never did.

Black History Month Ramble: n “Black Firsts” Let it Go Demand More.

The calling and labeling and tracking of black firsts is practically a micro-industry. And its not a black thang either. Interestingly Wikipedia has an entire section of African-American firsts so much so that you could make up your own quiz game (and many have for profit especially this month). Their list runs from 1760 with First known African-American published author Jupiter Hammon to 2009 with First African American Chairman of Republican National Committee Michael Steele. Hey a first black anything is a first black something.

Zink: Harness volcano power!
Yale Daily News
What the hell is a volcano and why does the federal government need to spend a whopping 0. 0175 percent of the total stimulus package to ?monitor? it?Naturally I went to Wikipedia and when I ran a search for ?volcano? I was greeted with a shocking result. ?A volcano? said the online encyclopedia ?is an opening or rupture in a planet?s surface or crust which allows hot molten rock ash and gases to escape from below the surface. ? I scrolled down to read the rest of the entry which included a multitude of pictures showing fire and ash spewing out from the very ground on which we walk. There is no way that volcanoes can actually exist I said to myself.

Music abounds in Rhode Island

The first festival was established in 1954 by George Wein with financial aid and promotion from socialite Elaine Lorillard and her husband. That first event attracted 11000 fans for a two-day event. According to information obtained from Wikipedia (wikipedia. org) many of the elite Newport summer residents opposed the festival. First of all the old guard weren’t jazz enthusiasts and the crowds that came for the event tended to be disruptive to the community. Wikipedia also cites racism of the time as being a factor in the community’s displeasure with the early events as many of the performing artists were African-Americans. However the younger generations supported it and the festivals grew and increased in popularity as the venues changed around the city to accommodate ever-increasing crowds.

Spicy Florals: Can they make us smell thin?
Examiner.com
These days we hear about men being turned on by the smell of pumpkin because some control group of men had their penile blood flow measured and compared after smelling a variety of things and a combination of pumpkin and lavender was the winner. I read a book in which it stated that the women in a similar control group were affected most by the smell of cucumber which might explain the popularity of Cucumber & Melon body splashes. (Image: Wikipedia Commons: An optical illusion: the inner white square and the small black square are the same size. )Right now the talk of perfumistaville is the Spicy Floral perfume often reported (even on AL yesterday) that it makes men think women are up to 12 lbs. lighter than they really are. Assuming thinner equals more attractive (which we know isn’t necessarily so) this sounds promising to many of us but how significant is this illusion considering most men don’t know how to tell a woman’s weight at all? The difference between 10-15 lbs. would surely go over most men’s heads with or without the added distraction of perfume.
