Add Wikipedia entries to Google’s results pageThe people’s encyclopedia takes a lot of heat for the unevenness and unreliability of some of its entries. But in my day job as a technical editor I frequently use the site for background on topics I’m not familiar with–and there’s no shortage of those. I save myself a lot of time when I enable James Hall’s. I usually don’t miss the screen space but clearing room for more results is as easy as clicking the Hide button on the right side of the Wikipedia entry.

A book on the subject seems contrary to its spirit: surely it would be more correct to issue a rough version – even a “stub” – and wait for it to be expanded? Today’s Wikipedia however is not primarily the handiwork of passers-by: it is mostly built by a keen sometimes obsessive community of volunteers who call each other Wikipedians. Andrew Lih is a member and although his account of the site’s growth gives space to the controversies it has generated the tone is fannish. He conveys a vivid sense of Wikipedian talent and provides a useful primer on the computing culture that gave it birth.

I’d appreciate your comments on this one!Saturday after my 20-miler I had some pain in my heel. It felt like a bruise but there was no visible mark on my foot. Sunday it still hurt like a dickens but I figured it was just from the long run so I ran on Monday night without any sharp pain.

No one should take Wikipedia seriously with all the continuing revelations (Wired News etc) that it is a propaganda site of corporate gov’t and even CIA shills. Think about it Wikipedia is structured for anonymous well-funded criminals to dominate.
